- Cook cherupayar parippu/Moongdal in a pressure cooker adding enough water and little salt.Just cook for 2-3 whistles in medium flame.Don't overcook the dal/parippu.
- Then in another pan add grated pumpkin,turmric powder,green chilli and salt.Add little water and cook till the water dries up and the pumpkin becomes soft.
- Meanwhile,gently crush together grated coconut and cumin seeds.Add this to the cooked pumpkin-dal mix.Mix well,add more salt if needed.Cover and cook in low flame for 2-3 mints.
- Now heat oil in another pan.Splutter mustard seeds.Add dry red chilli and curry leaves.Add grated coconut also.Saute till coconut becomes golden brown.Pour this tempering into the pumpkin -dal koottu.
