The ingredients needed to make Vendakka Sambhar:
  1. Take 1/2 cup toor dal
  2. Get 10 nos ladies finger
  3. Provide 1 tbsp tamarind (thick juice)
  4. You need 1 nos tomato diced
  5. Use 8 nos shallots
  6. You need 2 nos green chili slitted
  7. You need 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  8. Take 1 tsp sambhar powder
  9. Use 2 tsps oil
  10. Prepare salt
  11. Get 2 tsps oil
  12. Use 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  13. Prepare 3 nos chilies red
  14. Get 1/4 tsp methi seeds
  15. You need curry leaves
  16. Use 2 tsps sambhar powder
  17. Provide 1/4 tsp jeera
  18. Get 1/8 tsp asafoetida
  19. Get coriander leaves
Steps to make Vendakka Sambhar:
  1. Pressure cook dal with turmeric powder,salt and enough water for 3-4 whistles.
  2. Soak a lemon size tamarind in water and extract the juice. Keep aside.
  3. Cut ladies finger into 2inch pieces. Heat oil in a pan add ladies finger,saute for a while and then add shallots,tomato and green chilies..add 1tsp sambhar powder and saute it  around 5 mins. Keep aside.
  4. Heat another pan and splutter mustard seeds followed by methi seeds, red chilies, jeera,and curry leaves. Reduce the flame and add 2tsp of sambhar powder and asafoetida. Pour the cooked dal into this  and mix well. Let it boil. Add ladies finger,shallots mixture,and  tamarind juice, check water consistency and salt. When it starts boiling, switch off the stove. garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
  5. Serve hot with rice/idli/dosa :)
